BBC America has been treating us to a Doctor Who marathon for the last few days and it got me in the mood for a little Whovian celebration on my last day in the office for 2014. My coworkers were all complaining about how much they’d eaten all month so I didn’t actually bake anything, but if you want to have a Who party of your own this could serve as the centerpiece or just a quick start to a table of goodies.
In the classic Matt Smith episode “The Impossible Astronaut” the Doctor promises President Nixon that he’ll find the child who’s been calling the Oval Office. And what does he need to do it?
“I’m going to need a SWAT team ready to mobilize, street level maps covering all of Florida, a pot of coffee, 12 Jammy Dodgers and a fez.”
In the episode he doesn’t actually get everything he asks for, but I put it all together because it seemed wrong to have a party without a fez. Fezes are cool.
You can get a fez on Amazon, and the Jammie Dodgers as well, unless you have a store near you that imports food from the U.K. To be honest, the cookies aren’t that great, so don’t go overboard on buying them. They aren’t terrible, just a bit dry. I think the name is the best thing about them.
For the maps of Florida I went by my neighborhood AAA office, but you could print some off Google as well. My SWAT team came from the dollar store and my coffee carafe came from the office kitchen.
You can start planning now to do this for Impossible Astronaut Day, which is April 23rd. Don’t forget to draw some hash marks on your arms.
